Mental Health Awareness Month: “Turn Awareness into Action”

Mental Health Awareness Month

Suicide is a huge problem in our world. In the United States alone, someone dies by suicide every 11 minutes. There are many reasons for this that I have discussed in the book Right Now! The book focuses on short, concise pieces of information so it does not overwhelm the reader, but on my website, I will go more in depth with the practices suggested.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, and the theme for 2025 is “Turn Awareness into Action.” The focus is on celebrating the progress that has been made in recognizing the importance of mental health. It also challenges us to make meaningful steps toward change.

The first portion of the book focuses on the importance of our thinking. For optimal mental health, when we have problematic thinking, we need to change it. That’s why I believe psychotherapy is critical in addressing this issue. Unfortunately, many people don’t respond to therapy and need additional support. Individuals that are diagnosed with Treatment-Resistant Depression have many other options available to them. These will be discussed in more depth, along with the importance of brain imaging to pinpoint the problem in the brain. There are numerous practices we can incorporate into our life that help shift our thinking, plus a variety of practices that are harmful to our thinking.

The second portion of the book focuses on the importance of taking care of our physical body. When we don’t take care of our body correctly, our mental health is negatively affected. Things like proper nutrition, supplements, water intake, and body movement are aspects of life that we need to focus on to have optimal mental health.

The third portion of the book focuses on our spiritually. We are energy beings that vibrate at a certain frequency, like all of life does. To have optimal mental health, we need to vibrate at a high frequency. There are many ways to raise our vibration, which include prayer, meditation, music, Reiki, crystals, laughter, sunshine, nature, and animals.

“Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives and to celebrate recovery from mental illness.”
